Stalker, 6 Converter Thefts: Elmhurst Cops

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a stalker, thefts of catalytic converters, a scaffolding fall, overdoses and damage, among other offenses. Here is information from the last Elmhurst police reports:

Stalker

  • A woman told police Sunday that she believed she was being followed by a man. On Aug. 2, she said the man encountered her at a doctor's appointment at Elm Chiropractic, 475 S. Spring Road. An officer contacted the man, who said he would have no further contact with the woman.

  • Two men stole a catalytic converter about 11 a.m. Saturday from a car at Bella Terrace Elmhurst nursing home, 420 W. Butterfield Road. One of the men was described as black, 5-foot-11, 20 to 30 years old, having short dreadlocks and wearing a white T-shirt. The other man was described as black, 5-foot-11, 20 to 30 years old, and wearing black clothing and a ski mask.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday from a car at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. The hospital parking lot has been a frequent target of such thefts.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday from a car at Park Place of Elmhurst senior living center.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday from a car at Loyola Medicine, 300 N. York.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen between July 29 and Aug. 1 from a car in the 200 block of East Butterfield.
  • A catalytic converter was stolen overnight Friday from a car at 110 W. Butterfield Road.

Drunk woman

  • A woman was found to be intoxicated in a stairwell shortly before noon Thursday in the 100 block of Fellows. The person was unable to care for herself. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

  • A man fell from a section of scaffolding shortly after noon Thursday at Yorky's restaurant, 836 N. York St. Workers reported the man lost his balance. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Overdoses

  • Officers responded about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of North York Street to a person who had taken too many pills. He was taken to the hospital.
  • A person overdosed shortly after noon Saturday in the 200 block of North York Street. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Identity theft

  • A woman told police Friday that someone tried to use her credit card and withdraw money from her account at Clarion Inn, 933 S. Riverside Drive. The woman said she had her credit card at the time of the transaction.

Youths suspected

  • A person told police about seeing a group of youths about 9 p.m. at McKinley and Hawthorne avenues. An officer saw that a street sign was taken from the intersection.

Damage

  • A lamp post was damaged overnight Friday at a house in the 800 block of South Mitchell. When an officer interviewed neighbors, one of them said decorative ground lights were damaged in his front yard.

Stab wound

  • An officer met with staff at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, about a patient who was in the emergency room for a stab wound. It was determined the incident happened in Berkeley. Berkeley police were contacted.

Vandalized car

  • Someone punctured all four tires of a car, broke a driver's side window and poured Gatorade in the gas tank between 2 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of West Kimbell Avenue. The case is pending.

Suspicious car

  • An officer entered a parking lot at 500 W. Lake St. about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The driver of a silver Kia sedan sped away. Officers were unable to find the car. It was later discovered the license plate on the car was stolen in Elgin. An investigation is pending.

Fountain fiasco

  • About 5:30 p.m. Sunday, an officer discovered someone placed Jello and soap in the City Centre fountain at 112 E. Schiller St.
