Street Racer Leads Flees Elmhurst Cops: Police
He was later caught and is facing felony charges, local authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving street racing, a stolen car, a jail scam, damage, a bicycle fall, retail theft and a DUI. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Street racing
- Joseph Pina, 19, of Bensenville, was arrested about 2 a.m. Wednesday on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding, street racing, reckless driving and disobeying a traffic control signal. In the same incident, Pina's passenger, an 18-year-old Bensenville woman, was charged with obstructing justice. Police said Pina sped away when an officer tried to stop him for speeding at York Street and Crestview Avenue. Officers later found him. Pina was taken to the DuPage County Jail. The woman was released. The suspects live in the same house, police said.
Stolen car

- A white and black 2017 Infiniti Q60 was stolen between 5:30 p.m. Friday and 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of South West Avenue.
Jail scam
- A woman told police Wednesday that she received a phone call from someone claiming to be her grandson, saying he needed money to get out of jail. The woman sent no money after learning it was a scam.

- Someone shattered the window on the driver's door of a car shortly after midnight Monday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. Security footage captured a blue hatchback stopping near the victim's car and an unidentified man approaching the car before fleeing. No other cars were damaged. Nothing of value was reported stolen.
Bicycle fall
- A woman fell off her bicycle about 4 p.m. Monday at Butterfield Road and York Street. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
Retail theft
- A man stole two cartons of cigarettes and ran away about 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Shell gas station at 218 E. Butterfield Road. He was seen getting into a black Chevrolet Equinox, which was last seen headed east on Butterfield. An investigation is pending. The man was described as black, heavy set, having cornrows, and wearing headphones, a black T-shirt and blue shorts.
DUI
- A 38-year-old Cicero woman was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at North and Villa avenues on charges of DUI and improper lighting. Police said they stopped her because she was driving without headlights. She was taken to the police station and then released.
