Summer Concerts at Bethel United Church of Christ
Classical music concerts at Elmhurst church
Classical music will again fill the sanctuary of Bethel United Church of Christ this August, as flutist Tessa Vermeulen presents a concert featuring the works of Bach, Prokofiev and Taktakishvili on Thursday, August 16 at 7:00 p.m., and acclaimed violinist Uli Widmaier presents a program featuring the violin sonatas of Bach, Mozart and Franck on Thursday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m.
Both artists are residents of Elmhurst and will be accompanied on the piano by Minister of Music Jeffrey Panko.
Flutist Tessa Vermeulen is a 2018 graduate of York Community High School and a student of Hideko Amano. Tessa was a finalist at the Crain-Maling Foundation Chicago Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and she was also awarded top prizes at the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, Senior Open Division and The Chicago Flute Club Student Competition, Senior Division. Tessa is co-principal flutist of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and joined the CYSO on a European tour last summer.

Violinist Uli Widmaier was born in Germany, studied violin at the conservatory in Munich during the 80s and took master classes with Henryk Szeryng, Nathan Mironovich Milstein and Ruggiero Ricci. He then came to the United States to earn his B.A and M.A. in English Literature from Brown University and his J.D. from Yale Law School, after which he worked as a litigation attorney at the Intellectual Property firm Pattishall, McAuliffe, Newbury, Hilliard & Geraldson LLP for more than twenty years.
A free will donation will be taken at the door for each concert.
