ELMHURST, IL — A Chicago man was arrested Wednesday after he crashed his car during a police pursuit in an Elmhurst neighborhood, authorities said.

Gonzalo Guerrero, 29, was arrested on a number of charges.

The car Guerrero was in was so damaged that an officer had to break a window to remove him. During a search, officers found cocaine in Guerrero's possession, authorities said. He was taken to the hospital and then released.

His bail was set at $1 million. He was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, three counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding an officer, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and two traffic offenses.

In a statement, State's Attorney Robert Berlin said Guerrero's "lawlessness and complete disregard" for the safety of others will not be tolerated.
