Suspicious Photo, Cake Theft: Elmhurst Cops

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a suspicious photo-taking taxi driver, a cake theft, a chronic nuisance, a car burglary, a drunk man, harassment and a dog at large. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Suspicious photo
- A resident told police that a driver for American Taxi picked him up and took him to O'Hare for an out-of-town trip about 6 p.m. Sunday. The taxi driver requested permission to take a photo of the resident's house. The resident gave permission, but thought it was odd as his home was an average two-story house. Contacted by police, the taxi driver said he took the photo so that he could build the same house in his home country.

- A woman stole an ice cream cake from a freezer about 5:30 p.m. Friday at Dairy Queen, 143 N. York. She was seen with a small child and left the business. The woman was described as white, having blond hair, 5-foot-5, heavyset, and wearing a black shirt and jeans.
Elevator damage
- The display screen above an elevator was damaged between 9 a.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday in the building at 149 N. Addison Ave.

- A chronic nuisance warning was issued Thursday to a house in the 600 block of North Indiana.
Car burglaries
- A car was burglarized between 7 p.m and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. Tools inside the vehicle were stolen. The rear license plate was removed. An investigation is pending.
Nothing wrong after all
- A resident told police that two electronic items were stolen in a burglary of a vehicle parked in a driveway between 7:45 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of North Parker Street. It was later discovered that the resident had left the items at work.
House damage
- The front window of a house was damaged between May 1 and May 12 in the 200 block of East Madison Street.
Man falls
- A man fell and appeared to be drunk about 10 a.m. Friday at Sal's Beverage World, 695 W. St. Charles Road. The man drove away in a gray SUV. He was found at his house and appeared to have suffered injuries. He denied he was at the store. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.
Harassment
- A resident in the 500 block of North Emroy Avenue told police Friday that she received an unwanted phone call from a suspect against whom she had a no-contact order. The suspect told an officer that he contacted the resident when he was looking for a ride from a neighbor and accidentally called the resident. He said he canceled the call.
Bicycle issues
- A bicycle was found near a fence at Interstate 290 and York at 5 p.m. Saturday. It was a black Huffy Rangeline bike. It was placed into evidence.
- A boy left his blue Trax mountain bicycle about 7 p.m. Saturday north of the entrance at Panera, 108 E. North Ave. Upon his return at 8:30 p.m., it was gone. He did not know the bike's serial number.
- A 15-speed blue Huffy Roadmaster bicycle was found at 9 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Swain. It had no serial number. The bike was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
Dog at large
- Mary Jo Mikottis, 64, of Elmhurst, was cited at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Fairview and Vallette on a charge of having an animal at large. According to a police report, a man on the Salt Creek Trail said a black and white dog off its leash bit him in the upper left part of his thigh. The case was referred to DuPage County Animal Services.
Identity theft
- A resident in the 400 block of West Avery Street told police Friday that someone used the resident's identity to buy three cellphones, an Apple Watch and an iPad at an AT&T store in Chicago without authorization. The theft occurred April 18. An investigation is pending.
- A resident in the 400 block of North Maple told police Sunday that she received debit and credit cards in the mail that she did not apply for. She did not activate the cards and has frozen her credit.
