Tell Your Story at Do Not Submit: Elmhurst
Monthly open mic storytelling event debuts in Elmhurst June 17

ELMHURST, IL -— Do Not Submit, the long-running series of open mics that encourage storytelling without judgement or pressure, has found a new home in Elmhurst. Fitz’s Spare Keys hosts the very first Elmhurst event on Monday, June 17.
Do Not Submit was founded by Chicago-based storyteller Scott Whitehair in 2012. Over time, the series has grown to 14 sites in Chicagoland, including Logan Square, Edgewater, Evanston, and Oak Park.
How it works
Attendees may arrive up to thirty minutes beforehand to sign up. Storytellers are called in order. Each storyteller has 7 minutes to tell or read a personal story of their choosing. No experience is necessary.

"It is rare to have a chance to fully connect with those around us, without the interference of a screens, schedules, and interruptions,” says Whitehair. “At these events, the audience and teller have a chance to truly share a moment together, to reflect on the past, learn from each other, and maybe imagine a future."
Personal storytelling empowers, transforms, and delights people of all ages and walks of life. As storytelling podcasts like The Moth gain traction, local storytelling events are increasing in popularity as a way to connect with others, requiring only a room, a microphone, and the funny, embarrassing, or tender personal experiences that shape the human experience.
