Thefts At Same Time At Elmhurst Store: Reports

In another case, an aggravated DUI suspect had two children with him, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving retail theft, aggravated DUI, drugs, a recovered truck, an argument, theft, harassment and a fall off a bicycle. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Retail theft

  • Nicholas Lykins, 28, of Berwyn, was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive, on a count of burglary and two counts of retail theft. Police said Lykins walked out of the store without paying for a basket of merchandise. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. About the same time, a 38-year-old Chicago man was charged with retail theft at the same store. He was released. In an email to Patch on Thursday, city spokeswoman Kassondra Schref said the city had no evidence indicating the suspects acted together, so they were charged separately.

Aggravated DUI

  • Omar Villegas, 36, of Des Plaines, was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Monday at York Street and Diversey Avenue on charges of aggravated DUI, aggravated driving with a revoked license, endangering the life of a child (two counts), failing to secure a child under 8, improperly turning, improperly using lanes and driving an uninsured car. Police said the man had two children in his car. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Drugs

  • A 29-year-old man who lives in the 100 block of West First Street was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Monday at Quincy Street and Kent Avenue on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving an uninsured car. He was released.

Truck recovered

  • Super Ego, a trucking company at 677 N. Larch Ave., told police Sept. 16 that it recovered a semi-truck that had been reported stolen Sept. 11.

Argument

  • An employee at The Roosevelt at Salt Creek retirement community, 400 W. Butterfield Road, got into an argument with a co-worker and made a statement that concerned others about 4 p.m. Saturday. The incident was reported two days later. A responding officer was unable to contact the suspect.

Theft

  • A man stole online food orders that were waiting to be picked up about 11 a.m. Monday at Bonita Bowls restaurant, 156 N. York St. The man left in a blue GMC Arcadia SUV.
  • A man stole several lottery tickets between 1:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sept. 4 at 7-Eleven, 572 S. York St. The theft was reported nearly two weeks later. The man was described as black, carrying a dark backpack and wearing a boonie-style hat, red jacket, dark pants and dark shoes.

Harassment

  • A resident in the 100 block of Caroline Avenue told police Tuesday that a former co-worker was still contacting her after she asked him not to. An officer spoke with the ex-co-worker and told him not to contact the woman.

Violation of release conditions

  • A woman at Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect Ave., told police Tuesday that a suspect had violated his pretrial release conditions by contacting her. An investigation is pending.

Bicycle fall

  • A man fell off his bicycle about 7 p.m. Tuesday at York and Schiller streets. Officers and medics responded. The man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Bicycle found

  • A red and black mountain bicycle was found Wednesday at Vallette Street and Hillcrest Avenue. It was placed into evidence for safekeeping.
