Threat Dropped In Elmhurst Firm's Suggestion Box: Cops

In another case, a credit card stolen at a restaurant was used fraudulently, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a threatening note, fraud, retail theft, a fake social media account, harassment and a scam. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Threatening note

  • Superior Ambulance, 699 N. Walnut St., received a threatening note in its suggestion box last week. An investigation is pending.

Fraud at restaurant

  • A woman told police Thursday that her wallet was lost or stolen at Chick-fil-A, 235 Route 83. She later discovered her credit cards were used to make a purchase. An investigation is pending.

Retail theft

  • A suspect stole numerous items about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. An investigation is pending.

Fake social media account

  • A resident in the 100 block of North Addison Avenue told police Friday that someone set up a fake social media account using her name and photos. The victim asked for the account to be taken down.

Theft

  • A person rented a car from Enterprise, 856 N. York St., on Feb. 10, but has not returned it. Several unsuccessful attempts were made to contact the suspect.

Fall after drinking

  • A person who was drinking fell on the sidewalk near York and Adelaide streets about 3 p.m. Friday. The victim was treated by medics.

Harassment

  • A person at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road, received numerous threatening messages from her ex-boyfriend Friday. An officer tried to contact the ex-boyfriend, to no avail. An investigation is pending.

Scam

  • A resident in the 400 block of South Sunnyside Avenue told police Saturday that the IRS notified her that someone used her personal information to collect unemployment benefits in her name. The resident checked her financial accounts, which had not been compromised. She agreed to complete the proper paperwork with the Illinois Department of Employment Security, which handles unemployment benefits.

Check fraud

  • A resident in the 100 block of North Walnut told police Saturday that she deposited two checks in the mail March 4. She was notified by Fifth Third Bank that someone intercepted one of the checks from a postal box, altered it and deposited it into an ATM. The bank closed the account before the second intercepted check had been deposited. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the 400 block of Allison Street told police Sunday about placing a check in the mail March 5. He later found it was intercepted, altered and cashed. An investigation is pending.

Domestic battery

  • Police responded for a domestic standby Saturday at a house in the 200 block of South Villa Avenue. While there, officers learned that two people got into an argument there that turned physical March 5. Both people claimed the other was at fault. Because of conflicting statements, no arrests were made.

Theft

  • A 24-inch cement statue was stolen between March 1 and March 11 from in front of a house in the 400 block of East Church Street.
