Threats, Retail Theft: Elmhurst Cops

Someone threatened to harm employees at an Elmhurst business, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving threats, retail theft, car burglaries, a disturbance, a fugitive driver and a scam. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Threats

  • Super Ego Logistics, 677 N. Larch Ave., reported Thursday that a suspect contacted the state Department of Labor and threatened to harm employees at the business. An investigation is pending.
  • A person got into an argument with a customer about 9 p.m. Saturday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. The person was asked to leave for the night, but the person then threatened the staff. The suspect denied making any such statements and left without any problems.

  • A man and a woman stole a bottle of liquor about 5 p.m. Thursday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. The woman was accompanied by the man, who bought some items at the self-checkout counter. The man entered an older model four-door sedan and drove toward Industrial Drive. The woman ran away toward York Street. An investigation is pending. The woman was described as black, 5-foot-7, 220 pounds, in her mid-30s, having cornrows, and wearing a Wonder Woman T-shirt and a tattoo on her upper right arm. The man was described as black, 6-foot-4, 200 pounds, in his late 30s, and wearing a gray Ecko T-shirt and a black baseball cap.
  • Two people stole three baskets of liquor bottles about 6:30 a.m. Friday at Jewel, 944 S. York St. Detectives found the suspects' gray Ford Fusion and recovered the stolen merchandise. Charges are pending.
  • A man stole a bottle of liquor about 7:30 p.m. Friday at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive. The man was described as white and wearing a black helmet, a black shirt, tan khakis, a black backpack and black shoes.
  • Suspects attempted to steal a cart full of liquor about 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. They were unsuccessful. Their white Hyundai Genesis was last seen headed south on York Street.
  • A person stole merchandise shortly before noon Sunday at Whole Foods, 215 S. Route 83. An investigation is pending.

Car burglaries

  • An officer saw the driver of a black Lexus RX 350 drive through a stoplight about 4:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles and Poplar. When the officer tried to stop the driver, the person drove away. The car was stolen in Bloomingdale. When checking the area, an officer found an unlocked car that was burglarized. A number of items were taken from the trunk.
  • Someone burglarized unlocked cars between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the 400 block of East South Street. Documents were tossed around, but nothing appeared to be missing.

Disturbance

  • A person argued with employees about 9 p.m. Thursday at Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Road. The person was given a no-trespass notice.

Fugitive driver

  • About 2 p.m. Thursday, an officer found a stolen gray Lexus at North Avenue and Route 83. The driver failed to stop and drove away, last seen heading east on North Avenue.

Wallet issue

  • A woman told police that she left her wallet in the center console of her parked, unlocked car between 6:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Thursday at Salt Creek Park at Second and Glade. The wallet, containing debit, credit cards and possibly some cash, was stolen. She was later notified that someone tried to use her credit card.

Scam

  • A resident in the 400 block of South West Street told police Thursday that a person posing as a Microsoft technician asked her to buy gift cards. She did and provided the suspect with the security codes.

Animal death

  • Police started an animal death investigation Friday at With Love From Head to Tail, 514 S. Spring Road.

Phone issue

  • While unloading items about 6 p.m. Saturday at Ahimsa Yoga Studio, 506 S. Spring Road, a woman believed her phone was stolen and gave police a description of the suspect. She later found it in her car.
