ELMHURST, IL – A man insulted the nationality of his Uber driver and then attacked the driver at a gas station in Elmhurst, police said.

The man, identified as Markquell Green, 35, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was arrested.

Green had requested a ride to Gary, Indiana, about 50 miles away.

When he got into the car, Green asked the 42-year-old driver whether he was from Sudan. The driver confirmed he was. Then Green said he was better than the driver because he was from the United States, police said.

The driver then stopped a couple of blocks away at the Shell gas station at 103 W. Third St., asking Green to get out of his car. Green refused at first, police said.

After the two men got out of the car, Green tackled the driver to the ground and damaged the driver's phone in the process, according to the report.

Green pressed down on the driver's neck, causing the driver to struggle breathing, police said. The driver somehow managed to break free and called 911.

During an interview with officers, Green was asked why he was in town. He said he was looking for work as a truck driver.

According to the report, an officer then asked whether Green was in town because of Super Ego Holding, a trucking company in Elmhurst's northside industrial park, to which Green replied, "F--- them."

Asked about the allegation of violence, Green admitted to it, police said. The report stated Green said he used some karate on the driver, "put him in place" and then let him off the ground.

Asked where he held down the driver, Green pointed to his upper chest, police said.

"This area. I seen the fear in his eyes," Green was quoted as saying. "He ain't from America."

An officer told Green about how the driver alleged Green insulted his nationality.

Green twice flexed his bicep and said "Trump 2024," police said. But he then said he had no problem with the driver being from another country.

At different points in his interview, Green told officers, "You should shut the f--- up" and "you talk too much," the report said.

Police said Green smelled of alcohol and slurred his words.

Green was jailed on two counts of aggravated battery and counts of criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and criminal property damage. A day later, he was released from the DuPage County Jail, according to public records.
