Unwanted Sleeper, Gun In Car: Elmhurst Cops

A person found sleeping in a house was given a no-trespass notice, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving an unwanted sleeper, a gun in a car, a stolen car, disturbing messages, tire damage, a bicycle theft and a fall on a sidewalk. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Unwanted sleeper

  • A woman was found sleeping in the crawl space of a house about 7:30 a.m. Friday in the 400 block of East May. The homeowner told the woman several times that she was not allowed in the house. The woman was issued a no-trespass notice.

  • A resident on Elm Creek Drive told police that he rents his car out through the Turo app. On Sunday, after his car was turned in, he found a gun under the front driver’s seat. The gun owner was identified and was determined to have a valid firearm owner’s identification card and concealed carry license. The gun was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Stolen car

  • A resident in the 100 block of East Knighton Place said that upon returning from out of town, she found her 2012 Hyundai Elantra was no longer parked in its space. She was gone from 2:30 p.m. Friday to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

  • Police received a report of a man with a gun about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of North Howard Avenue. The man told officers he did not own any guns. He said he was using a stick to stoke a fire in his fire pit. At a distance, it may have been viewed as a gun.

Disturbing messages

  • A person at Shoe Carnival, 195 S. Route 83, received disturbing messages via Snapchat from a stranger Thursday. The person threatened to contact the police. The stranger unfriended her.

Suspicious

  • A person was found trying to gain access to a home at 5 a.m. Friday in the 700 block of South Hawthorne Avenue. The person could not remember what happened and appeared to be suffering from exposure. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Tire damage

  • Someone punctured the two passenger’s side tires of a woman's Enterprise rental car between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of North Caroline Avenue. It was parked near the end of her driveway. Each tire appeared to have one individual puncture on the top sidewall.

Stolen watch

  • A woman told police that her son left his black Apple Watch in his unattended bag during a swim meet Feb. 20 at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road. Upon checking his bag, he was unable to find his watch.

Fall on sidewalk

  • A man told police Sunday that he was briskly walking on the sidewalk and fell forward, striking his head on the ground. He suffered a large cut and swelling above his right eye. Medics took him to the hospital. Officers did not see any uneven areas of the sidewalk. The incident happened about 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Larch Avenue.

Bicycle theft

  • A man told police Sunday that his son left his unlocked orange Trek mountain bicycle for about an hour near the football field at York High School, 355 St. Charles Road. When he returned, it was no longer there. The victim did not know the serial number for the bicycle.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 100 block of South Fairview Avenue lost his wallet Wednesday and now has unauthorized charges on his debit and credit cards. The resident has canceled his cards.
