Visiting the Library During a Pandemic: What to Expect

With additional COVID-19 safety precautions in place, the doors of Elmhurst Public Library remain open to visitors.

Visitors are required to wear masks and remain socially distanced from others for a maximum of a one-hour visit. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are required for some spaces like the Makery and Study Rooms. Computers are available during visits and do not require a separate reservation.

"Our new grab-and-go service model gives patrons access to the Library’s collection while limiting time spent in the facility for the health and safety of all,” says Mary Beth Harper, Director.

The Creative Studio and Meeting Rooms are unavailable until further notice.

Because of the pandemic, the Library has increased its virtual services by offering virtual meeting rooms, virtual chat with the Information Desk, and an increased digital collection with expanded borrowing privileges. In September, the Library checked out nearly 18,000 digital items!

The Library has stayed in step with its vast array of programming, offering all virtual programs primarily over Zoom or YouTube.

Throughout the pandemic, the Library has continuously served the community, and made its collections, services, and staff accessible to the public.
