Wallet Theft, Sleepy Suspect: Cops
A woman's wallet was stolen while she was shopping in an Elmhurst store, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving theft, a sleeping stranger, porch piracy, damage, a fugitive driver and identity theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Theft
- A wallet was stolen about 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Goodwill store, 675 W. North Ave. Video surveillance showed a woman placing her wallet in a shopping cart and then walking away to look at an item. Meanwhile, the suspect took the cart and pushed it to the other side of the store. The suspect then made a purchase and left. An investigation is pending.
- A man in the 700 block of North Howard Avenue told police Saturday that the moving company that his family hired stole his wife's jewelry during the move-in process. The first two suspects were described as black, short, and having a slender build and short hair. The third one was described as Hispanic and having a slender build. An investigation is pending.
- TransChicago Truck Group, 776 N. York St., told police about 9:30 a.m. Thursday about finding a car propped up on wooden blocks with its tires and rims missing.
Sleeping suspect

- A resident in the 100 block of North Maple Avenue found a person sleeping near her front door when she came home about 8 p.m. Saturday. The suspect left the area before officers arrived. The woman did not want to sign a complaint, but said she would look into filing an order of protection.
Porch piracy
- A resident in the 500 block of West Gladys told police Thursday that two packages were delivered, but she did not receive them. They were believed to have been stolen.
Damage

- The informational sign for the city's pumping station at Crescent and Sunnyside was vandalized about 8:30 a.m. Friday.
Fugitive driver
- An officer pulled over a driver for improper lane usage about 2 a.m. Sunday near Lake Street and Interstate 290. The driver then fled. The car was later found unoccupied after it crashed off of the exit ramp onto eastbound North Avenue. An investigation is pending.
Identity theft
- A resident in the 200 block of East Wilson Street told police Sunday that someone used his personal information to buy a car from an Indiana dealership. The resident contacted his credit union to report the fraudulent purchase.
