What Elmhurst Residents Like, Dislike About Town
A university asked residents whether Elmhurst is a good place to live.

ELMHURST, IL – An overwhelming majority of Elmhurst residents like living in town, a recent survey shows.
A total of 98 percent of those surveyed say Elmhurst is a good or excellent place to live. The remaining 2 percent say Elmhurst is fair. No one rated it as poor.
In late April, the Center for Governmental Studies at Northern Illinois University mailed a survey randomly across town. A total of 609 people responded, either by mail or online.

According to the survey, 99 percent of residents believe Elmhurst is a good or excellent place to raise children.
But they're not as keen on retiring here. A little over half said Elmhurst is a good or excellent place to retire, with 29 percent saying it's fair and 19 percent poor.

Here's what residents identified as the thing they most like about Elmhurst: Schools (19 percent), access to transportation (18 percent), low crime (16 percent) and parks (15 percent).
Here's what they like least: Property taxes (25 percent), new construction (16 percent) and traffic (13 percent).
The Center for Governmental Studies said it worked closely with city staff throughout the project.
