Wheelchair Fall, Scam: Elmhurst Cops

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a wheelchair accident, a scam, fugitive drivers, trespassing, theft and domestic battery. Here is information from the latest police reports:

Accident

  • A woman in a motorized wheelchair was trying to cross the street about 10:30 a.m. Saturday at North and West avenues, but the wheelchair got caught in uneven or loose dirt. She fell from the wheelchair onto the street. She was taken to the hospital.

  • A resident in the 600 block of East Hillside Avenue told police Thursday that she gave her Social Security number to a person who claimed to be from Freedom Debt Relief. The woman became suspicious when the person told her not to file a police report. An investigation is pending.

Fugitive drivers

  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a black Chevrolet Impala for tinted windows about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Route 83 and North Avenue. The driver did not stop and was last seen heading north on Route 83. The car was later found unoccupied in Wood Dale. An investigation is pending.
  • An officer tried to stop a person on a scooter about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Schiller and York. The person did not stop and was last seen heading east on North Avenue.
  • An officer tried to stop a driver about 9 p.m. Friday at Route 83 and North Avenue for disobeying a stop light. The driver sped away, last seen heading west on Lake Street.
  • An officer tried to stop a driver about 1:30 a.m. Saturday at Interstate 290 and Roosevelt Road for speeding. The driver sped away, last seen heading east on Interstate 290.
  • An officer tried to stop a man on a red minibike about 3 p.m. Saturday at York Street and North Avenue for having no registration displayed. The man was last seen heading south on Route 83. The man was described as Hispanic, having a heavy build, and wearing a black helmet, black shirt and jeans.

Trespassing

  • A resident in the 200 block of East Gladys Avenue told police Thursday that she had seen a person walking on her lawn a number of times. The person was issued a no-trespass notice and told not to return to the property.

Theft

  • A woman told police that someone stole her unattended backpack between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. at York and First streets. An investigation is pending.

Domestic battery

  • A woman in the 200 block of East Fremont told police Sunday that she was the victim of a domestic battery in July. The suspect denied any physical contact with the victim. An order of protection was submitted before the police report was filed.
