ELMHURST, IL – An Elmhurst police officer earlier this month answered a call for help from a resident who had locked himself out of his car while it was still running.

The resident was Kevin B. Thynne, 21. He is a student at the University of Alabama who lives in the 500 block of North Oaklawn Avenue in Elmhurst.

When the officer inputted Thynne's driver's license information, he found that Thynne had a full extradition warrant from Alabama's Tuscaloosa County, where the university is, police said. Thynne was wanted on a charge of unlawful distribution of dangerous drugs, police said.

The officer asked Thynne whether he had ever been in trouble at the school. Thynne said he had been caught with cocaine, police said.

Thynne told the officer he had attended meetings and was on probation for the cocaine violation, according to a police report obtained through a public records request. He said he was unaware of any warrant, police said.
