Woman Accused Of Taking Wallet: Elmhurst Cops

The suspect stole the wallet from a desk at an Elmhurst business, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police have responded to matters involving burglary, theft, chronic nuisances, harassment and drug possession. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Burglary

  • Alicia S. Smith, 42, of Chicago, was arrested about 3 p.m. Monday on charges of burglary and retail theft. A woman at a business at 110 E. Schiller St. told police her wallet was taken from her desk. Smith was found in possession of the wallet, police said. Shortly after, Smith stole merchandise from The Uptown Ship, 123 N. York St., police said. Smith was taken to the DuPage County Jail. (Previously, Patch incorrectly named the business in the building where the theft of the wallet occurred.)

  • A woman told police that someone stole her wallet from her purse about 7 p.m. Friday while her car was being serviced at Al Piemonte Buick, 364 W. Grand Ave. A charge was made to her TJ Maxx Mastercard.
  • A man told police that his ex-girlfriend was throwing away his property about 8 a.m. Monday at the Extended Stay America hotel, 550 W. Grand Ave. The woman had two bags of the man's property. The man said several items were missing. He requested that a report be taken as a matter of record.
  • A man and a woman stole a spool of wire from a work site about noon Monday at Whole Foods, 215 S. Route 83. They left in a white Chevrolet Silverado. He was described as Hispanic, 40 years old, and wearing a plaid jacket and blue jeans. She was described as Hispanic, 40 years old and wearing a white hoodie.

Chronic nuisances

  • A chronic nuisance investigation took place about 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of East Grantley Avenue. Around the same time, a similar investigation was occurring in the 700 block of South Saylor Avenue, which is a few blocks away.

Suspicious

  • After a suspicious incident, a suspect wandered around about 1:30 p.m. Monday at YMCA, 211 W. First St., and then left. An investigation is pending.

Harassment

  • A resident in the 100 block of North Michigan told police Tuesday she received eight phone calls on her phone from an unknown caller. She did not answer the calls, but is concerned it may be someone with whom she has an order of protection. An investigation is pending.

Drug possession

  • A 31-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 11 p.m. Monday at Lake Street and McNair Avenue on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana by a driver, possession of open alcohol by a driver, driving an uninsured car and failing to signal. He was released.
