Woman Hurt When Tree Limbs Fall: Elmhurst Cops

In another case, a grocery customer is the victim of a scam over a dropped bill, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving falling tree limbs, a dropped bill scam, retail theft, loitering, a dog bite, fugitive drivers and stolen laundry. Here is information from Elmhurst police reports:

Woman injured

  • Two large tree limbs fell and struck a woman's car about 4:30 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of South Arlington Avenue. The woman suffered several cuts and was treated by medics. Her car was damaged.

  • A customer at Jewel, 153 Schiller St., told police Sunday he was approached by a person who asked whether he had dropped a $20 bill. The customer looked in his wallet and told the suspect the $20 bill did not belong to him. Afterward, the customer was unable to find his credit card. He later learned fraudulent charges were made. The scam has occurred in other places.

Retail theft

  • Surveillance video showed a person stealing six bottles of liquor about 6 a.m. June 15 at Jewel, 944 S. York St. The report was filed Friday.

Loitering

  • An employee at Shell gas station, 654 W. North Ave. said he wanted no-trespass notices issued to people who remained in the parking lot after being asked to leave about 11 p.m. Friday. An officer told the people they could not loiter in the parking lot. They were given no-trespass notices and left.

Dog bite

  • A woman told police that her dog was bitten by another dog while she was walking her dog about 4 p.m. Friday near First and Clara. The owner of the offending dog was cited for not having a "no rabies" tag on the dog. DuPage County Animal Services was notified.

Fugitive drivers

  • An officer tried to stop a moped occupied by three people about 12:30 a.m. Sunday at North and West. They sped away, heading west on North Avenue.
  • About 10 p.m. Sunday near Glade and North, an officer saw a black Infiniti Q50 that was stolen in Chicago. The driver sped away when the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop. The driver was last seen headed east on St. Charles Road.

Stolen laundry

  • Someone stole a load of laundry from a dryer about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at 24/7 Laundromat, 954 N. York St.
