Worker Disputes, Fake Prize: Elmhurst Cops

Local police are called about employee issues at two local businesses.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving worker disputes, a fake cash prize, retail theft, identity theft and a stolen catalytic converter. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Worker disputes

  • An employee at John Sakash Co. told police that a co-worker threatened him about 11 a.m. Thursday. He wanted the police to know about the incident as a matter of record.
  • An employee at Clarion Hotel, 933 S. Riverside Drive, told police Friday that a co-worker made comments that made her feel uncomfortable. She wanted the police to know as a matter of record.

Fake cash prize

  • A resident in the 500 block of East Adams Street told police Friday that a person claiming to be with Publishers Clearing House called her and said she won a cash prize. To receive the prize, she sent two separate payments. She then became suspicious and called her bank, which then froze her accounts. One of the transactions did not go through.

Retail theft

  • A man concealed several bottles of liquor in a shopping cart and stole them about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. He left in a gray BMW sedan and was last seen heading east on Schiller Street. He was described as black, 6-foot-2, 30 to 40, having an athletic build and a medium beard, and wearing a white baseball cap, a blue jacket with a Champion logo, dark pants with white patches on the front thighs and back knees, and white gym shoes.
  • A man stole merchandise about 8 p.m. Thursday at Jewel, 944 S. York St., and was seen leaving in a black Chrysler 300. He was described as black, 30, 5-foot-11 and having a thin build.
  • A man stole two cases of beer about 9 p.m. Friday at 7-Eleven, 572 S. York St. The man was described as white, 16 to 20, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8, 160 to 180 pounds, and having short blond hair and a thin build.

Identity theft

  • Chicago Water and Fire, 729 N. Larch Ave., told police Friday that someone used the company's credit card for several purchases between July 14 and Sept. 9. An investigation is pending.
  • A resident in the Market Square Apartments in the 200 block of Addison Avenue told police Thursday that he received a collections notice for unpaid rent. The resident discovered someone used his information to rent an apartment in Bloomington, Illinois.

Converter stolen

  • A catalytic converter was stolen between Sept. 19 and Sept. 22 from a company van at Fair Plumber, 627 N. York St. An investigation is pending.

Parking garage damage

  • Someone damaged three floodlight lamps in the parking garage between Sept. 15 and Sept. 21 at 149 N. Addison Ave. About 7 p.m. Saturday, a fire extinguisher on the seventh floor was discharged.
