York High School Ranking Increases This Year

Local officials see U.S. News ratings as important for schools.

ELMHURST, IL – York High School was ranked the 30th best high school in the state this year out of more than 700 high schools, according to U.S. News & World Report.

That was an improvement from last year's ranking of 33rd. U.S. News released its latest rankings last week.

Nationwide, York slipped in its ranking among nearly 18,000 schools. It is now ranked 694th nationally, compared with 671st a year ago.

In 2018, U.S. News rated York the 17th best high school in the state and 703rd nationally, according to U.S. News.

At a recent meeting, Elmhurst School District 205 officials said they understood the importance of such rankings. They are used by parents who are considering where to live.

In the latest rankings, Hinsdale Central moved up one spot to ninth in Illinois. Hinsdale South, meanwhile, increased to 71st, up 11 spots.

The factors in the rankings include college readiness, state assessment proficiency, graduation rates and college curriculum breadth index.
