York HS Teams Win Prizes In Sustainable Design Challenge
York High School students took two of the three top prizes.
ELMHURST, IL — Several teams of students from York Community High School participated in the 12th annual Sustainable Design Challenge on April 17 at the DuPage County Administration Building in Wheaton. The event is sponsored by SCARCE and DuPage County Stormwater Management, and is geared towards promoting environmental and stormwater education.
According to the district, teams constructed a building and landscape model that used environmental and water-friendly design practices. They presented their design to a panel of judges, as well as the public, DuPage County Board members, local professionals and county staff.
The district said students from York High School took two of the three top prizes. Seniors Cate Ayers and Siva Sreedhar won the Overall LEED Design and a $500 prize. Juniors Annalise Soldano and Mollie Grasse, along with sophomore Bridget Tully and freshman Franchesca Soldano, were awarded the Best Stormwater Design, which comes with a $250 prize.

The students are invited to an awards presentation at the May 8 DuPage County Board meeting, starting at 10 a.m. The awards presentation is open to the public.
