3 Teens Accused of Attempting to Rob Woman in Evanston Alley

The suspects were caught by police in Chicago after a chase in Evanston terminated on Ridge Avenue Thursday.

EVANSTON, IL - Police in Chicago caught up with three of the four teenagers who attempted to rob an elderly woman in an Evanston alley Thursday afternoon, according to a report from the Evanston Police Department.

Police say a 70-year-old woman was approached with a gun in an alley behind her home in the 1700 block of Monroe Street around 4:05 p.m. The woman screamed, which caused the robber to flee in a vehicle with another suspect who began to approach.

A chase that began when police located the suspect vehicle nearby ended when it entered Ridge Avenue and into Chicago. But Chicago police were able to apprehend three of four suspects in the car on Pratt Avenue near the lakefront.

The vehicle did not stop initially in Chicago, and all subjects fled on foot. The fourth suspect who was not apprehended was wearing all red at the time, according to police.

Arrested were a 15-year-old boy from Calumet City, a 16-year-old boy from Chicago and 17-year-old boy from Chicago. They are all charged with aggravated robbery.

The vehicle was reported stolen out of Chicago earlier. A pellet gun that resembles a real handgun was recovered.
