Shoplifter Says He Has A Gun, Punches Home Depot Staff: Blotter

Incidents and arrests from the Evanston Police Department blotter from Sept. 25 - Oct. 4

EVANSTON, IL — The following information comes from the Evanston Police Department as a record of those arrested by police and incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

BURGLARIES

  • Someone stole a bicycle from an apartment storage area in the 300 block of Main Street between Sept. 25 and Sept. 28 after breaking a latch by force.
  • During the overnight hours of Sept. 25 to 26, someone stole a laptop from a home in the 1700 block of Asbury Avenue after entering through an unlocked door.
  • Between 6 and 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 26, someone broke a window to a single-family home in the 2000 block of Orrington Avenue and stole jewelry, crystal and a tablet.
  • Someone stole a bicycle between Sept. 16 and Sept. 29 from a garage in the 800 block of Sheridan Road after forcing a window open.
  • Someone broke a window to an apartment storage area in a burglary attempt during the overnight hours of Sept. 28 to 29 but nothing was reported stolen.
  • Between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 28, someone entered an apartment through an open window and stole cash.
  • Between 3 and 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, someone entered a garage in the 1400 block of Dewey Avenue through an open door and stole a bicycle.
  • Someone pried open a door to a dry cleaners in the 2900 block of Central Street around 4 a.m. on Sept. 30, but nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone stole alcohol and cash from the register of a restaurant in the 2900 block of Central Street between 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 and 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 30.
  • Between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Oct. 2, someone broke a window to a single-family home in the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue, but nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone damaged a window to a home in the 2500 block of Ridge Avenue between 7:50 a.m. and 2:06 p.m. on Oct. 2 and stole cash, a purse, jewelry, camera equipment, a computer and electronics.

CELL PHONE THEFTS

  • A person known to police was reported to have stolen a cell phone at a school in the 2200 block of Church Street around 9 p.m. on Sept. 21.
  • Two cell phones were stolen from lockers at a dance studio in the 1900 block of Dempster Street between 5 and 9 p.m. on Sept. 26.
  • A cell phone was stolen from a desk drawer of a medical office in the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue between Sept. 28 and Oct. 1.

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone stole a 2005 Ford parked on the street in the 100 block of Custer Avenue between 8 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 9 a.m. on Sept. 28.
  • Someone stole a 2018 Ford from a business in the 2100 block of Dempster between Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 and a 2011 Ford from the same business between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2. Keys were used in both cases. The business also reported a 2006 Ford stolen after it was not returned between Sept. 11 and Sept. 26.

ARRESTS

Ryan E. Miles, 41, of the 100 block of Clyde Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 6:12 p.m. on Sept. 21 down the block from his home and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

William D. Thomas, 38, of the 4800 block of Greenleaf Street in Skokie, was arrested at 7:43 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the area of Howard Street and McCormick Boulevard and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

Joel Childress, 23, of the 1800 block of Leland Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 8:17 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the 3300 block of Golf Road and charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.

Dennis O. Wallace, 20, of the 100 block of Elmwood Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 11:39 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue and charged with theft.

Finnis M. Bowie, 21, of the 2100 block of Darrow Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at his home around 10 a.m. on Sept. 25 and charged with assault.

Kadrin Z. Kavlakov, 39, of the 1200 block of North Knollwood Drive in Palatine, was arrested at the Evanston Police Department at 2:36 p.m. on Sept. 25 in connection with a charge of domestic battery from an earlier incident.

Dante B. Printis, 31, of the 2000 block of Ashland Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 3:18 p.m. on Sept. 25 in the 1800 block of Howard Street and charged with the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.

James R. Tolbert, 56, of the 7400 block of North Western Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 4:29 p.m. on Sept. 25 in the 2400 block of West Birchwood Avenue and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

Milton L. Fields, 68, of the 5800 block of North Broadway Street in Chicago, was arrested at 4:34 p.m. on Sept. 25 in the 2000 block of Howard Street and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

Michelle L. Parrish, 49, of the 2700 block of North Pine Grove Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 9:31 a.m. on Sept. 26 in the 600 block of Hull Terrace and charged with domestic battery.

Corey A. Horton, 24, of the 600 block of Wesley Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 9:35 p.m. on Sept. 27 at his home and charged with domestic battery.

Mario Vazquez, 24, of the 800 block of 13th Street in North Chicago, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Sept. 28 in the 2000 block of Emerson Street and charged with domestic battery.

William P. Hutchinson, 33, of the 6500 block of North Claremont Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 9:50 a.m. on Sept. 28 and charged with trespassing at the U-Haul rental company at 2125 W. Dempster St.

Stephen A. Craig, 61, of the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 28 in the 1800 block of Maple Avenue and charged with trespassing in a vehicle.

Windred U. Barnett, 53, of the 600 block of Mulford Street in Evanston, was arrested around 3 p.m. on Sept. 28 and charged with retail theft at the Sam's Club, 2450 Main St.

Deandre T. Watkins, 26, of the 700 block of River Road in Des Plaines, and Olicia A. Wynter, 24, of the 200 block of Wigwam Road in Macomb, were arrested prior to 8 p.m. on Sept. 28 in the 2000 block of Emerson Street and both charged with battery.

Juan Hernandez, 41, of the 5000 block of North Monticello Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 2:52 a.m. on Sept. 29 in the 1500 block of Forest Avenue and charged with driving under the influence.

Rakeem A. Day, 22, of the 6700 block of North Bosworth Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 6:51 p.m. on Oct. 1 and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Anthony J. Spano, 36, of the 500 block of Elmwood Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 2:41 a.m. on Oct. 3 at his home and charged with domestic battery.

Johnny Ramirez, 23, of the 700 block of Dobson Street in Evanston, was arrested at 12:48 a.m. on Oct. 3 down the block from his home and charged with driving under the influence.

Ashlee E. Lasher, 26, of the 200 block of Asbury Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at her home at 9:31 a.m. on Oct. 3 and charged with domestic battery.

Evelyn A. Guerrero, 30, of the 700 block of Brummel Street in Evanston, was arrested at 11:12 a.m. on Oct. 3 in the 2400 block of Main Street and charged with theft.

Christopher A. Robinson, 61, of the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue, was arrested at 7:46 p.m. in the 2000 block of Oakton Street and charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated battery to a merchant and felony retail theft after he reportedly stole about $580 worth of merchandise from the Home Depot at 2201 Oakton Street. When stopped by staff, he claimed he had a gun and reached for his waistband before punched the employee in the head and leaving on foot.
