Another Suspect Charged In Shooting That Hospitalized 1 In Evanston

Evanston police arrested another teen suspect in connection with a shooting that took place last month.

EVANSTON, IL — Another suspect has been charged in connection with a shooting that hospitalized one man last month.

At 6:08 p.m. on April 21, police responded to the 700 block of Howard Street after receiving emergency calls reporting gunshots. Officers later found a man nearby with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in his arm near Main Street and Elmwood Avenue.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital to treat his injury.

Investigators found evidence of gunfire inside a local business and also reviewed video and witness statements.

Authorities arrested an 18-year-old suspect on May 1, and arrested 19-year-old Cajmere Lemond of Evanston on Thursday. According to investigators, detectives identified Lemond as a suspect after reviewing surveillance video, witness statements, physical evidence, and other investigative leads.

Authorities located Lemond on May 14 while walking near the 500 block of Custer Avenue in Evanston. According to police, he attempted to flee on foot when confronted, but was taken into custody without further incident in the 600 block of Hull Terrace.

During further investigation, police found two loaded guns in Lemond's backpack: a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and a AA Arms P-9 handgun with an extended magazine.

Police searched the firearms in a law enforcement database and discovered one of them had been reported stolen out of Steubenville, Ohio.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the case and approved two felony counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and one felony count of mob action against Lemond.

Evanston police said the investigation into the incieent is still active and ongoing.
