2. City expected to hike water rates next year (evanstonnow.com) — Evanston officials are weighing water rate hikes next year to cover roughly $25 million in 2027 water and lead service line projects, with scenarios ranging from about 10% to 50% increases. Finance leaders are debating how much to rely on higher rates versus new bond debt, and whether to stop transferring $4 million annually from the water fund to the general fund.
3. Aidan Chiles throws for TD in debut as Northwestern rallies past FCS South Dakota State 34-18 (abc7chicago.com) — Northwestern's season opener brought college football excitement right to Evanston, as new quarterback Aidan Chiles threw for 273 yards and helped the Wildcats pull away from South Dakota State at Ryan Field. 4. 9/11 resonates for local actor (evanstonnow.com) — A longtime Evanston resident and Northwestern theater alum, Heidi Kettenring is starring in the 9/11-themed musical "Come From Away" at Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire through October 18. She reflects on how the show honors real passengers and townspeople from Gander, Newfoundland, and why performing it on the 25th anniversary of 9/11 will be especially emotional for her and audiences.
