Evanston Man Charged After Oakton Hit-And-Run Seriously Injures Pedestrian (patch.com) β Evanston residents are learning more about a serious hit-and-run at Oakton Street and Hartery Avenue that left a woman with major head injuries, now in stable condition. Police say a 71-year-old Texas man was tracked through regional cooperation, arrested in Morton Grove, and charged with a felony for leaving the scene, along with traffic citations.

First Presbyterian Church of Evanston hosts community fall festival (dailynorthwestern.com) β Evanston residents packed the first-ever Fall Fest at First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, enjoying free food, live music, pet blessings and kids' activities just days ago. Organizers hope to make the inclusive neighborhood block party an annual tradition and are already gathering ideas from local kids for even more attractions next year.

3. Space To Place kicks off shared marketplace featuring small businesses (dailynorthwestern.com) β Evanston has launched Space To Place, a shared marketplace in Bookman's Alley that gives local and historically underrepresented entrepreneurs affordable storefront space downtown. Running through Dec. 31, the city-subsidized program hosts 11 small businesses, offering mentorship, reduced risk and a new reason for residents to shop locally Wednesday through Sunday.

4. Alders push data center moratorium (evanstonnow.com) β Evanston residents may soon see a formal pause on new data centers, as a strong majority of City Council members say they'll back a moratorium lasting up to a year. Prompted by a proposed small facility on Hartrey Avenue, the move would give the city time to study infrastructure impacts and craft clear rules before approving any such projects.

Students flock to downtown Evanston restaurants for Big Bite Night (dailynorthwestern.com) β Downtown Evanston restaurants just hosted Northwestern students for the sold-out Big Bite Night, giving newcomers an easy way to sample local spots and feel more at home in the city. With 23 businesses and a new student-run discount app involved, the event aimed to turn first-time tasters into regular Evanston customers.
