2. The GOAT to appear before NU game at Ryan (evanstonnow.com) — If you're heading to Ryan Field Saturday, expect celebrity chef Stephanie Izard to open her new Goatdown stand before the Northwestern–Ball State game and be ready for strict neighborhood parking rules. District 6 restrictions and $125 fines around the stadium will be enforced from two hours before kickoff to an hour after, so plan your parking or transit carefully.
3. Backlot Coffee plans new Evanston location, coffee bike service for early 2027 (evanstonroundtable.com) — Backlot Coffee is bringing a second Evanston shop to 1424 Lake St., just a few blocks from Evanston Township High School, with a smaller menu and a planned early‑2027 opening. The new location will also serve as home base for a fleet of coffee bikes expected to roll out into neighborhoods starting next spring, expanding convenient caffeine options for residents and students.
4. Handgun found in ETHS student locker, superintendent says (dailynorthwestern.com) — A 17-year-old Evanston Township High School student was detained Friday after staff, investigating a stolen backpack in a gym locker, found a handgun and loaded magazine, according to Evanston police. Officials say the situation was quickly contained, there was no active threat to the school community, and ETHS' Secure and Teach protocol was not needed, though the investigation continues.
5. Northwestern Versus Ball State Preview: Stay on Schedule, Stay Interested (teamnbsmedia.com) — Northwestern hosts Ball State at Ryan Field in Evanston today at 11:30 a.m., with the Wildcats heavily favored after a statement win over Penn State. The preview breaks down how Northwestern's powerful rushing attack and disciplined play could control the game, while warning that overconfidence has tripped the program in past nonconference matchups.
