Car Crash Damages Freshii in Downtown Evanston

A police chase resulted in a two-car crash and a shattered restaurant front.

EVANSTON, IL - A police chase in downtown Evanston Friday night resulted in a two-crash crash that shattered the front glass window of the Freshii restaurant at Sherman and Davis.

According to police, officers at Ridge Ave. and Church St. attempted to stop a vehicle for a minor traffic violation around 6:30 p.m., but the driver fled and eventually collided with another car at Davis and Sherman.

Two of the three people in the offending vehicle - a 22-year-old man from Chicago and an 18-year-old man from Chicago - were transported to NorthShore Evanston Hospital with minor injuries. A 25-year-old woman in the back seat was uninjured.

The lone occupant of the vehicle that was struck - a 51-year-old Evanston woman - was not hurt.

The restaurant suffered “cosmetic damage” to the front of the restaurant, but no structural damage.

A preliminary investigation revealed that both a handgun and a small amount of suspected cannabis were found in the vehicle.

The in-car police camera will be reviewed to determine if the officer’s actions were “within Department policy.”
