Chicago Men Charged With Sex Offenses In Evanston: Blotter
Incidents and arrests from the Evanston Police Department blotter from Feb. 5 to Feb. 20.

EVANSTON, IL — The following information comes from the Evanston Police Department as a record of those arrested by police and incidents reported to police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indication of guilt and criminal charges, which represent merely accusations by the state, are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
HOME/BUSINESS BURGLARIES
- A burglar broke into an apartment building through a rear door window around 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 4 in the 800 block of Dobson Street. Nothing was reported stolen.
- Bicycles were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 2400 block of Park Place between Oct. 25 and Nov. 4 of last year.
- A burglar stole cash from a shop the 900 block of Chicago Avenue between 4 and 6 a.m. on Feb. 15 after entering through an open front door.
- Someone broke into an apartment in the 200 block of Custer Avenue between 9 a.m and 5 p.m on Feb. 17. Jewelry and cash were reported stolen.
- Someone broke into an apartment in the 700 block of Austin Street and stole photo identification between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Feb. 19.
- A burglar stole a smart watch and gaming system from an apartment in the 400 block of Elmwood Avenue between 7:50 a.m. and 4:06 p.m. on Feb. 19.
STOLEN CARS

- A 2009 Toyota was reported stolen from the 1400 block of Grey Avenue between 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 12. The car was parked in the street and the keys were accounted for, police said.
- A 2004 Ford was reported stolen from a retail establishment in the 2100 block of Dempster Street between 3 p.m. on Feb. 5 and 3 p.m. on Feb. 6.
SHOTS FIRED
- Gunfire was reported around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 10 around the intersection of Greenleaf Street and Fowler Avenue. No evidence was found at the scene.
- Police were called to the intersection of Foster Street and Brown Avenue for a report of shots fired around 8 p.m. on Feb. 16. Nothing was found in a check of the area.

ARRESTS
Tashwan V. Owen, 31, of the 2500 block of Central Street, Evanston, was arrested at 1:50 p.m. on Feb. 3 in the 2300 block of West Chase Avenue and charged with five felonies: aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated battery — use of a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police with bodily harm, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police while disobeying two or more traffic control devices and failure to report an accident with injuries. Ari Yonatan Wartell, 29, of the 2900 block of North Damen Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at the Evanston Police Department at 4 p.m. on Feb. 4 and charged with battery.
Phillip J. Lewis, 30, of the 900 block of Sherman Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 8 p.m. on Feb. 4 at his home and charged with violation of an order of protection.
Kerry J. Farina, 38, of the 2000 block of Foster Street, Evanston, was processed on additional charges of aggravated home repair fraud around 1 p.m. on Feb. 5 at the Skokie courthouse. In January, he was charged with three counts of aggravated home repair fraud. Read more...
Jacob B. Johnson, 25, of the 12400 block of South Wentworth Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 in the 7500 block of North Paulina Avenue and charged with disorderly conduct — breach of peace.
Rasheed A. Sanders, 35, of the 15900 block of South Halsted Street, Harvey, was arrested at 12:05 a.m. on Feb. 8 in the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue and charged with battery.
Robert A. Henry, 52, of the 1800 block of Lake Street, Evanston, was arrested around 1 p.m. on Feb. 8 at the Evanston Police Department and charged with domestic battery.
Omari T. Johnson, 34, of the 1200 block of Harvard Terrace, Evanston, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 in the 1200 block of Crain Street and charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol.
Omar Guerragarcia, 35, of the 3100 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Feb. 9 in the 200 block of Ridge Avenue and charged with driving under the influence.
Roberto Salas, 31, of the 2600 block of West 71st Street, Chicago, was arrested around 1 p.m. on Feb. 10 and charged with criminal sexual assault and possession of child pornography.
Michael B. Haywood, 33, of the 1800 block of Darrow Avenue, Evanston, surrendered at the Evanston police station around 12:15 p.m. on Feb. 12 on a charge of criminal sexual assault by a person in authority following an investigation into reports he had an inappropriate sexual relationshipwith a student at a high school where he worked. Noah J.B. Smukler, 22, of the 8500 block of Lawndale Avenue, Skokie, was arrested at 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 13 in the 400 block of Dodge Avenue and charged with violation of an order of protection.
Corey L. David, 31, of the 500 block of South Boulevard, Evanston, was arrested at 10:43 p.m. on Feb. 13 in the 500 block of Howard Street and charged with unlawful use of a weapon. No further information about the charge or circumstances of his arrest was immediately available from police.
Jose Roberto Morales, 36, of the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue, Evanston, was arrested at his home at 11:37 p.m. on Feb. 13 at his home and charged with domestic battery.
Alonzo M. Garner, 46, of the 1200 block of Fowler Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 6 a.m. on Feb. 14 in the 1200 block of Pitner Avenue and charged with domestic battery.
Mark F. Gruber, 49, of the 1000 block of Sheridan Road, Evanston, was arrested at 9 p.m. on Feb. 15 at his home and charged with domestic battery.
Dionne E. Adams, 50, and Benjamin D. Frazier, 50, of the 1400 block of Howard Street, Evanston, were arrested between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 15. Adams was arrested at home and charged with domestic battery. Frazier was arrested in the 300 block of Ridge Avenue and charged with criminal damage to property.
Bert R. Garcia, 36, of the 6700 block of South Justine Street, Chicago, was arrested around 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 16 and charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. One charge appears to date back to 2009.
Timothy L. Sturdivant, 56, of the 200 block of Custer Avenue, Evanston, was arrested around 9 p.m. on Feb. 16 in the area of Mulford Street and Callan Avenue and charged with aggravated assault.
Leon G. King, 36, of the 2300 block of Dempster Street, Evanston, was arrested at 3:49 a.m. on Feb. 17 in the area of Lee Street and Chicago Avenue and charged with driving under the influence.
Edward M. Serrano, 30, of the 300 block of Ridge Road, Wilmette, was arrested at 6:50 p.m. on Feb. 17 in the area of Forest Avenue and Davis Street and charged with driving under the influence.
Marcus L. Printis, 34, of the 2000 block of Oakton Street, Evanston, was arrested at 1:50 a.m. on Feb. 18 in the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue and charged with violation of an order of protection.
Leroy G. Williams, 52, of the 2100 block of Dewey Avenue, Evanston, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. on Feb. 18 and charged with retail theft at the Walgreens, 2100 Green Bay Road.
Timothy L. Jones, 35, of the 600 block of West 8th Street, Belvidere, was arrested at 3 a.m. on Feb. 19 in the area of Asbury and Main Street and charged with driving under the influence.
Daniel Canchola, 31, of the 10000 block of La Crosse Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 7 a.m. on Feb. 19 in the area of Prospect Avenue and Central Street and charged with domestic battery.
Van Halen Subrean, 31, of the 1800 block of West Palm Drive, Mount Prospect, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 in the 2400 block of Main Street and charged with theft.
