Christmas 2017: What's Open, What's Closed In Evanston

EVANSTON, IL — The Christmas holiday is fast approaching, and that means people will be out and about shopping, picking out presents and visiting family. While some people — including emergency personnel and employees at some retail stores — will be working on the holiday, many area businesses and offices will be closed.

Here's list of what's open and what's closed in Evanston for Christmas 2017.

• Post office: Closed
• Federal offices: Closed
• Banks: Closed
• Gas stations: Open
• City of Evanston offices at the Morton Civic Center: Closed Dec. 23-25 and Dec. 30 through Jan. 1.
• Refuse Collection: No recycling or solid waste collections will occur on Monday, Dec. 25 or Mon., January 1. Trash and recycling collections will occur one day later than normal during the weeks. Friday condo recycling collections will occur on Friday, Dec. 29 and Friday, Jan. 5.
• Evanston Township High School District 202, Evanston/Skokie School District 65: Closed for winter break through Jan. 8.
• Evanston Public Library: All Evanston Public Library locations will be closed on Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1. The Main Library will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.
• Evanston 311 Service: Closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 by phone.
• Retail stores: Some will be closed, some will be open, but check the hours before you go.
• City facilities:
  • Chandler-Newberger Center: Closed Dec. 23-25, 31 and Jan. 1.
  • Evanston Ecology Center: Closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
  • Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center: Closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.
  • Gibbs-Morrison Cultural Center: Closed on Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.
  • Levy Center: Closed Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1 for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The Center will close at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31.
  • Noyes Cultural Arts Center: Closed Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1. The Center will close at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31.
  • Robert Crown Community Center: Open from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 24 and 31, and will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
