City Announces 2020 Memorial Day Holiday Schedule

Evanston will modify its refuse collection and parking restrictions for the holiday weekend.

The City of Evanston has announced facility closures and service schedules for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25.

Refuse Collection
No collections will occur on Monday, May 25. Monday through Thursday trash, food and yard waste, and recycling collections will occur one day later in the week than normal. Friday condo recycling collections will occur on Friday, May 29.

Parking
Parking meters, pay boxes and downtown parking garages will be free on Memorial Day. In addition, other restricted areas that have signs that prohibit parking except on holidays will be honored. Non-safety related parking enforcement has been relaxed through the Stay at Home Order. Parking enforcement officers continue to issue fines for public safety violations, such as blocking a fire hydrant, stop sign, bike lane, or alleyway, or parking in a “No Parking” zone.

Facility Closures
All City facilities will remain closed per current COVID-19 service changes. Evanston Public Library services will be closed on Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 25 for the holiday, and will be closed on Friday, May 22 for a staff furlough day.

Beaches
Beaches are closed for swimming at this time. Beaches are tentatively scheduled to open for the season on July 1. More information will be announced.

The 311 Service Center will be closed on Monday, May 25. The 311 Center will also be closed on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24 according to its normal operating schedule.
