City Cleared in Lawsuit Alleging Police Cover-Up

A man cleared of a 2010 murder charge won't be able to sue.

A federal judge ruled last week in favor of the city of Evanston and against a man who sued them alleging police officers violated his rights when making a murder arrest in 2010.

Judge Jorge Alonso granted the city’s request to terminate the lawsuit last Thursday after finding the officers involved had reason to arrest suspect John Bamberg Jr., who was cleared of murder charges three years ago, according to the Daily Northwestern.

Bamberg was arrested after the fiancee of a man who was shot identified him as the shooter. In a lawsuit filed b Bamberg in 2013, he accused police of setting him up and covering up information that favored his innocence.
