Skillz Physical Therapy treats pain & discomfort using precise, methodical assessment rather than assumption

Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Aime Maranan, Founder of Skillz Physical Therapy.
Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:
Aime Maranan: Skillz Physical Therapy evaluates and treats pain and discomfort using precise, methodical assessment rather than assumption. The work begins with a detailed evaluation designed to identify the specific source of the problem. Not the location of pain, but what is actually causing it. That distinction matters. Because when the source is not clearly identified, treatment becomes trial and error.
Patch: How long have you been doing business in town, or how long has your organization been around in the community?
Aime Maranan: Close to 6 years in Evanston.
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Aime Maranan: What drew me into this work wasn’t the profession itself. I wanted to be a doctor, but my father directed me towards physical therapy. After years in practice, it became clear that many people weren’t improving because the actual source of their problem was never clearly identified. That led to a focused shift toward deeper evaluation methods and continued training aimed at understanding pain more precisely. Skillz Physical Therapy was built from that. Removing guesswork and creating a process centered on getting the right answer before treatment begins.
Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Aime Maranan: If there’s no improvement, or the same pain keeps returning, the source likely hasn’t been clearly identified. Relief can occur even when the underlying issue hasn’t been addressed, which is why the pattern repeats. Before trying another treatment, the priority is to determine exactly what is causing it.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Aime Maranan: The most satisfying part is seeing the reaction when something that felt long-term or unresolved improves once the true source is treated. Many expect it to take time based on past experience, so the change often comes as a surprise. It reinforces that when the right problem is identified, the outcome is different.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Aime Maranan: Clarity before treatment. Identifying what is actually causing the pain is key.
