Matt Cless accounted for 3 individual wins Saturday and led Evanston’s boys track team to a runnerup finish in the team standings at the Thornton Invitational meet.
Cless captured the high jump title at 6 feet, 6 inches and scored sprint victories in the 100 meters (11.29) and 200 (22.79) against the south suburb’s top speedsters. Overall, Evanston scored 9 first place finishes, but that wasn’t enough to overcome the depth displayed by meet champion Homewood-Flossmoor.
The Vikings capitalized on a meet rule that allowed 3 individual entries per event and outscored the Wildkits 263.83 to 236 to rule the 10-team field. Next in order were Crete-Monee (125.33), Brother Rice (98.33), Thornwood (81), Evergreen Park (61), Oak Forest (54), Thornton (52.5), Thornridge (47.5) and Rich Township (32).
