CTA Yellow Line Scheduled To Return in October

Detailed approach to restoring service agreed on, MWRD announces.

CTA Yellow Line service is expected to return in October.

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago announced Friday they, along with the CTA and Walsh Construction, have agreed upon “a detailed approach” to restoring the service in the safest way possible.

“This is a longer timeframe than any of us originally envisioned; however, it is by far the safest and surest path forward to restore excellent, reliable service for CTA passengers for years to come,” according to the District.

In the mean time, Yellow Line commuters have been bused to their location, with free parking offered at the Skokie-Dempster lots.

Walsh Construction came up with the plan to work and restore service.

The MWRD indicated other options that called for a quicker return of the service, but none were as safe as the October option.

“I have never been involved with a group – CTA, Com Ed, the District and Walsh Construction, our contractor--who have worked better together,” said MWRD Executive Director David St. Pierre. “From the onset, there has been the utmost cooperation which has resulted in everyone’s effort being channeled and focused into restoring Yellow Line service in the quickest, safest manner possible.”

The service has been suspended since an embankment near McCormick Boulevard in Skokie gave way earlier this year.
