Alleged CVS Knifeman Faces 2 Armed Robbery Charges

The 36-year-old Hanover Park man has been charged with a pair of knifepoint robberies at the same store a week apart.

EVANSTON, IL — After two robberies at knifepoint in about a week at an Evanston pharmacy, police said a Hanover Park man believed to be responsible for both is in custody. Around midnight Tuesday night, a man armed with a knife entered the CVS at 101 Asbury Avenue and demanded money. Another armed robbery was reported at the same location last Wednesday night.

Hilton D. Corins, 36, of the 7700 block of Bolton Way in Hanover Park, was arrested in the 1200 block of Harvard Terrace about two blocks from the site of the robberies, according to police. He has been charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery.

Police said Corins returned to the same CVS store, where one of the cashiers recognized him from images of the previous week's robbery. He allegedly pulled out a knife and walked around the counter demanding money. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news for Evanston — or your community. Two cashiers were able to exit the counter area via another exit away from the knife-wielding robber and contact police, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan. The robber fled the store heading north on Asbury without taking any money. Police said the knife was recovered nearby when Corins was arrested.
