Dempster Street Resurfacing to Begin Next Week

Project not scheduled to be complete until the end of October.

Submitted by the City of Evanston

The Illinois Department of Transportation will be contracting road resurfacing work on Dempster Street from the bridge over the North Shore Channel (near McCormick Blvd.) west to Ridge Avenue. Construction will begin the week of August 17 and the entire project is expected to be fully completed by the end of October.

The actual date when construction is planned will be noted on the temporary NO PARKING signs posted 48 hours prior to the start of work. Construction activities will create some inconvenience for abutting businesses and residents, but attempts will be made to minimize any inconvenience.

Construction zone daytime NO PARKING restrictions will be intermittent throughout the duration of the project; evening and nighttime parking (5 p.m. to 7 a.m.) may be unavailable at times. Street sweeping and/or neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived for a one-block radius around the construction zone when temporary daytime NO PARKING is in effect.

This project involves curb replacement as needed, accessible ADA ramps at the intersections, roadway base repair and replacement of asphalt surface from curb to curb along with roadway striping.
