ETHS Boys Soccer Beats Loyola 2-0 To Set Up Sectional Showdown With NTHS

The WIldkits will face the Trevians in a sectional semifinal Wednesday.

EVANSTON, IL — Goals by Nduwayezu Nkurunziza and Miguel Jimenez lifted Evanston’s soccer team to a 2-0 triumph over Loyola Academy Saturday in the championship game of the Evanston Regional tournament. The Wildkits will take a 13-4-4 overall record into Wednesday’s sectional semifinal showdown with host New Trier at the New Trier Sectional. The Trevians advanced with a 6-0 rout of Lane Tech.

Nkurunziza tallied in the first half and Jimenez netted a goal late in the second half off an assist from Johnny Trujillo for the winners. ETHS posted the shutout despite the fact that starting defender Reed Hurtig couldn’t play due to a concussion he suffered while the Wildkits practiced corner kicks during a practice session last Wednesday.

Ben Sollinger, who had hoped to return to the defensive unit after being sidelined by a broken wrist, has also been ruled out of Wednesday’s contest.

“We’ll be down two men against New Trier, so we’ll have to pack it in on defense and make the best of it,” said Evanston head coach Franz Calixte. The Trevians won the regular season matchup between the two rivals by a 1-0 margin.
