ETHS Staff Access to Student Lockers Limited

Only one school employee will have possession of Master keys after staff member caught stealing from students.

EVANSTON, IL - Evanston Township High School has initiated a new policy limiting the access staff members have to the Master keys that open students lockers.

According to Evanston Now, Superintendent Eric Witherspoon announced the change during a school board meeting on Monday. From now on, only the chair of the physical education department will have a master key and there must be at least two witnesses present before any student locker is open.

The change was made weeks after a school security guard was recorded on video opening students lockers and removing items. Reports indicate that person has been fired, but not named publicly and not charged since the students involved would not testify in court.
