Evanston Alderman Colleen Burrus To Step Down
Also resigning from her post at Northwestern, Burrus accepts post at Princeton.

Evanston’s 9th Ward Ald. Colleen Burrus is stepping down from both her position with the city and her post at Northwestern University to become director of corporate and foundation relations at Princeton University.
This means Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl will be tasked with appointing a replacement for Burrus as she departs in April. The last time Evanston had to fill a vacancy on the City Council was in 2011.
“I love Evanston. I love Northwestern,” said Burrus, the current senior director of corporate relations at the Big 10 school, in an interview with the Chicago Tribune. “They have been so good to me, but there are few times in life when you have an opportunity, and you have to embrace that opportunity. It was one of those bittersweet things.”

Burrus was first elected an alderperson in 2009 and earned a second term 2013 running unopposed.
She has worked for Northwestern for 11 years and served on the city’s Planning Commission before being elected to represent the Ninth Ward.
