Evanston Aldermen Increase Gun Range Restrictions
New law prohibits such businesses from opening with 350 feet of a public use space.

The Evanston City Council heightened the restrictions for a potential gun range to be located in the city.
On Monday, the body unanimously approved a measure to increase the amount of distance between such a business and a school, residence, park or other public area from 250 feet to 350 feet.
After an inquiry by 1st Ward Ald. Judy Fiske on why the restrictions could not be higher, City Attorney Grant Farrar said the ordinance “walks a fine line” and is the result of thoughtful deliberation at the committee level.

“That limit (350 ft) should go forward as it balances the issues of regulating a fundamental right and restricting public policy so that the rules can be strictly enforced and difficult to locate in the city.”
