​Evanston Aldermen Set to Get Big Raises

Committee recommends a 23 percent raise for aldermen in Evanston beginning with the next Council.

Evanston, IL - Those elected to the Evanston City Council in 2017 could be paid much more than those on the board currently.

A Mayor’s Compensation Committee recommended a 23.1 percent increase for aldermen, according to the Evanston Review. The City Council is expected to vote on the matter during their next meeting, which is scheduled for July 11.

The committee cited the hard work that goes into the job and the need to attract diverse candidates, the Review reported.

Council members currently make less than $13,000 a year, but would be paid $15,990 annually if the committee’s recommendation is accepted.

A raise was also recommended for the Mayor.
