Evanston Cops Placed on Leave After Arrest of City Clerk Candidate
City official sides with man arrested while circulating petitions downtown Sunday night.

EVANSTON, IL - A pair of Evanston police officers are on administrative leave after city officials claim they were wrong to arrest a political candidate for disobeying police outside the Panera Bread in downtown Evanston Sunday night.
Devon Reid, a candidate in the 2017 election for city clerk, was seeking petition signatures outside the restaurant when he was approached by Sgt. David Berman and Officer Amy Golubski, according to an Evanston Now report.
Reid gave the officers his name but not his birth date, at which time the officers arrested him on a misdemeanor charge of disobeying police. City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz said the arrest did not comply with the policies of the Evanston Police Department and that the city will move to drop the charge against Reid.
