Evanston Fire Caused By Cooking Grease: Investigators
No injuries reported from Evanston residential structure fire on Grey Avenue Wednesday.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in a single family residence on the 1400 block of Grey Avenue at 6:22 p.m. on Wednesday. Heavy smoke and fire was venting from a window on the first floor of the south side of the building when the fire was soon upgraded to a Code 4. That called in additional companies, according to the Evanston First Department.
All residents who reported the fire were able to safely leave the building. Firefighters working to extinguish the blaze said there were heavy smoke conditions throughout the structure, with heavy fire in the rear kitchen area on the first floor.
Fire investigators on the scene state the fire was caused by cooking grease. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.

The Evanston Fire Department credited a rapid response time and coordinated tactics for allowing it to bring the first under control in approximately 10 minutes. EFD reported the fire was under control with minimal damage at 6:32 p.m.
