Evanston Fire Crews Battle Sheridan Blaze

Firefighters from Evanston and neighboring communities spent over an hour containing a house fire on Sheridan Place Thursday.

EVANSTON, IL — Firefighters responded to a three-alarm house fire in a historic lakefront district of Evanston Thursday. Crews from were called to the fire at 2865 Sheridan Place around 11:09 a.m. and spent more than two hours battling the blaze, which tore through the roof of the three -story structure and engulfed the million-dollar home in flames.

The first companies on scene found the fire started on the home's second floor but it quickly spread to the top floor.

It was upgraded to a third alarm shortly before noon. Firefighters from neighboring departments, including Winnetka, Wilmette, Northfield, Glenview, Niles, Skokie and Park Ridge participated.

The fire was extinguished around 1:45 p.m., according to the Evanston fire department.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

No one was home at the time, authorities said, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
