Evanston Fire Department Responds to Apartment Fire at 911 Sherman Ave.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

EVANSTON, IL — On Friday, March 31 at 1:33 p.m., the Evanston Fire Department was dispatched to 911 Sherman Ave. for a report of an apartment fire in a four-story multi-family courtyard building.

First-arriving crews found the fire confined to a rear, ground floor unit of the building.

The response was upgraded to a 2nd level box alarm, which brought in resources from other communities to assist firefighting operations and station coverage for the City of Evanston.

One Evanston firefighter was transported to a local hospital with a minor injury. There were no other injuries reported.

The Red Cross has been called to the scene to help residents who may be displaced by the fire.

At this time, the cause is unknown and under investigation by the Evanston Fire Prevention Bureau.
