Evanston Hires Equity and Empowerment Coordinator

The City of Evanston announced Monday Dr. Patricia Efiom will fill the newly created position.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz appointed Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Efiom as the City’s Equity and Empowerment Coordinator, the City announced Monday. This position was created last year to provide coordination and leadership regarding issues of access, equity and empowerment to City services, programs and offerings to the Evanston community.

"Evanston is incredibly fortunate to have Pat Efiom agree to take on a new role after many years of being a leader and conscience of our community,” said City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz. “She understands the challenges we face in our city, state and nation to provide equitable programs and services to all."

Dr. Efiom served as the chief executive officer of the Ebenezer AME Church in Evanston from 2010-2016 where she was responsible for the spiritual guidance and strategic leadership to the members, staff and ministries of the Church. Her responsibilities also included managing two senior Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) properties housing 200 residents in Evanston.

Dr. Efiom has also served as the project director of the Garrett-Evanston CDF Freedom Schools Program since 2014. Prior to coming to Evanston in 2010, Dr. Efiom held several administrative positions with Indiana University.

Dr. Efiom will begin her new position with the City on Feb. 20.

"Her many years of championing these issues in Evanston will only make the City's efforts moving forward that much stronger. I welcome Pat to our team," Bobkiewicz added.

Dr. Efiom received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from Indiana University, a Master of Divinity degree from Christian Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.
