CHICAGO, IL - An Evanston man who led a marijuana trafficking and money laundering operation was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Jonathan Tankson, 32 distributed more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana from stash houses in Lincoln Park and River West and laundered the proceeds through luxury auto purchases and high-end property leases from 2011 to 2013, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Northern Illinois announced Thursday.
Prosecutors have said that Tankson coordinated shipments of marijuana from California that would come to stash houses in tractor trailers or trucks and vans. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.
