Evanston Promotes New Assistant City Manager From Within

Erika Storlie was appointed to one of the two open positions in Evanston's senior management team.

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston is promoting from within to fill one of the two positions vacated by the recent departure of Marty Lyons. Erika Storlie will take over as the new assistant city manager, City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz announced Wednesday.

Storlie has been deputy city manager since 2013. The appointment makes her the number two official in the city administration.

Former Assistant City Manager Marty Lyons was also Evanston's treasurer and chief financial officer before departing to take over as treasurer and CFO of Aurora this month. Budget and Finance Manager Ashley King was picked to act as interim CFO last week and the city is accepting applications for the position through Jan. 15.

Bobkiewicz said Storlie had proven herself an excellent leader with a track record of accomplishments in Evanston.

"She brings a unique combination of thoughtfulness, resourcefulness and tenacity to every assignment,” he said. “Erika leads teams that get things done. I look forward to working with her as she expands her responsibilities citywide."

The city said Storlie will take over responsibilities for the Robert Crown Center project, while continuing to focus on citywide initiatives, such as the Harley Clarke Mansion project and town-gown relations.

Storlie will also continue as administrative services director, according to a news release. In that position, she oversees the city's human resources, information technology, facility maintenance, fleet services and parking operations. She also serves as the City’s LGBTQ liaison, providing information, referral services, guidance, coordination, and technical assistance to residents.

Storlie, a graduate of Northwestern and Kent State University, previously worked for Sony Electronics in San Diego and focused on technology and web infrastructure assignments when she started working for the city in 2004. She lives in Evanston with her wife Kristi and their four children.
