Evanston Shuts Down on Weather

On Wednesday June 12 Evanston city workers were sent home at 3 p.m. because of an impending storm and weather alert. But the storms proved to be very mild and almost no rain ever arrived. In Highland Park no workers were sent home because "the storm was slowing," said a spokesperson. In Wilmette the village closes at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. A landscaper in Evanston, Gabriel Garcia, said he stopped work early after "Customers told me stop working." Evanston was apparently worried city workers would have trouble getting home. Eric Palmer, City Spokesman said, "better safe than sorry."  Will future lightning storms cause workers to be sent home? "You can never be too cautious when it comes to people's safety," Palmer was quoted as saying.
